Ofsted Report

Following our recent Section 8 Ofsted Inspection on 17-18 May, Belfairs Academy remains a good school.

Here are some highlights from the report:

We are delighted that inspectors recognised that “leaders have designed a curriculum that is high in ambition for all pupils, including those with special educational needs” and that pupils benefit from many opportunities through our enrichment activities. We are proud that our teachers are recognised for using “their expert knowledge to craft well-considered explanations of sometimes difficult concepts. They use their passion about their subjects to enthuse pupils about what they are learning.” Teachers also ensure our “sixth form students benefit from teacher expertise to gain a deep and rich understanding of the subjects they study.”

Inspectors recognised that “pupils who attend Belfairs Academy benefit from a provision that goes beyond the academic” and “that teachers have high expectations of what pupils can achieve and are well prepared for life beyond school.” In addition, “leaders have high expectations of how students should behave.”

The inspectors stated that “leaders have a clear understanding of how to support pupils with SEND… and teachers make suitable adjustments for pupils with SEND in the classroom.”

You will be pleased to hear that our staff are “well motivated” and are “well trained and know how to identify the signs that pupils might be at risk”.

I am also extremely delighted that inspectors saw and heard how “pupils and sixth form students are proud to make a positive contribution to their community”.
